Andy Green, a 64-year-old retired Royal Air Force pilot from Britain, achieved a new land speed record for a hydrogen-powered vehicle. The record-breaking run, exceeding 406 M.P.H., took place on Tuesday at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.
Green was already known as the only person to have broken the sound barrier on land, and this latest feat further solidifies his place in automotive history. He described the experience by saying, “The ground comes at you very, very quickly.”
