Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced the cancellation of the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission-Combined Graduate Level (JSSC-CGL) examination on Monday, August 17, 2026. This decision followed 24 days of extensive student protests over alleged irregularities and paper leaks in recruitment exams. The state cabinet also moved to cancel all examinations conducted since 2014 by TSR Data Processing Private Limited (TDPL), an agency that had been blacklisted.
The announcement was met with celebrations by protesting students in Ranchi, who had been demanding justice and transparency in the examination system. In addition to the cancellations, the government has initiated a comprehensive inquiry into recruitment processes carried out by both JPSC and JSSC since 2014. A committee will also be formed to recommend reforms to the examination system, aiming to prevent future malpractices. While students welcomed this as a significant victory, some leaders indicated that their agitation would continue until a demand for a CBI inquiry into the irregularities is accepted.
