The Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Simon Stiell, has declared India a "solar superpower." He noted that climate action is significantly benefiting the Indian economy.
Stiell highlighted that fossil-fuel-free sources now account for half of India's installed power capacity, a milestone achieved five years early. This rapid transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy is also backed by a highly skilled workforce. India's solar manufacturing capacity has grown 75-fold since 2014, making it the most competitive solar market globally in terms of generation costs. The country saved an estimated $18 billion in fossil fuel purchases last year alone by relying on solar and other renewable energy sources.
