Uttarakhand has achieved over 98 percent literacy, officially becoming India's sixth fully literate state. This significant milestone was approved by Governor Gurmeet Singh after the state met adult literacy benchmarks set by the Ministry of Education.
The achievement is a result of concerted efforts under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the 'ULLAS' (Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society) programme. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami described this as a "milestone" for the state, highlighting the progress in educational outreach and adult learning initiatives.
